Osaki Nana - movie version

Halloween 2008 costume

When the Nana movie came out, I was living in Japan and went to see it in the theatre with some friends. I had been really psyched about seeing this movie for some time after watching previews on TV, even though I'd never read the manga or really know anything about the Nana series except that one of my favorite musicians, Tetsu from L'Arc~en~Ciel, was a fan.

I still count Nana as one of my favorite movies, and I STILL haven't read the manga. I may get around to that one of these days, but that didn't stop me from wanting to cosplay Nana when I started really getting into cosplay. At the time, I didn't really have any concept of what a "found costume" or "closet cosplay" was, but that's basically what my Nana cosplay is - pre-bought articles of clothing put together to form a costume ensemble. It's perfectly fine for a cosplay like Nana, who wears clothing that's not too different from what some people would wear out on the street on a daily basis. My cosplay isn't 100% accurate, but I wasn't really invested enough in it to be that nitpicky about it.

I had a great time wearing this for Halloween. (I actually won a prize, "sexiest costume," at a party I went to XD) Will I ever pull it back out and fix it up for a con? I don't know. At this point, I kind of doubt it, as I have a lot of elaborate costumes planned for the next few years, and I am not that big of a Nana fan. But getting into the skin of my favorite goth girl rocker was a pretty cool experience, I won't lie.
