Book of Eibon, Chapter 1 version Dr. Franken Stein

For Anime Boston 2011 I will be doing a female version of Franken Stein from Soul Eater inspired by the Spartoi group (Klick, Maka, Black Star and weapons) going after Kid who has been trapped in the Book of Eibon. Each chapter is one of the seven deadly sins and when the kids reach the chapter on Lust they switch gender. So fun.

I also have a thing for doing gender-switch cosplay, not to be confused with crossplay which is flat out cross dressing. So this idea was born.

Here is what Stein looks like in his fight scene with Medusa from the anime as made into a figure that I covet holy cow.

Franken Stein figure

Female!Stein will wear fishnets, a dress that mimics the shirt and pants he wears, have heels instead of shoes of the same color and with painted stitches, a longer hair style, glasses, and the labcoat (not pictured) that he wears.

I met a few stein cosplayers at Otakon this year and most seemed to either not bother making his screw make noise or they used the guts from one of those New Years Eve sort of noise makers. I think my pill bottle idea was good, but now I’m not so sure. Besides, the sound is actually mechanical… go here and you can hear it for yourselves… Hmm… not sure how I’d mimic that, but here’s the shematic I gave propsmistress cachalot (she’s also making the scythe!!). Also, the headband goes under the wig and the pieces will be screwed in through it.

Any ideas on how to get a metallic sort of sound into this??

Medusa Nails Tutorial

This is the tutorial I found through a link at devArt that I used for Medusa’s nails.

I like white arrows rather than yellow because the variant on this cosplay only appears in the manga.  Since the glue she’s using in the tutorial is Scandinavian or whatnot I had to improvise, but it looks like Elmers to me.  Rather than holding the nails and getting polish all over myself (OCD much?) I created a cardboard base with wire loops that I put the nails on with white-tack.  At this very moment I have a set of nails that have been painted black and are finally dry (takes about 2 days to get really solid) are waiting for their arrows.  I let those dry for a few hours then apply a clear top-coat to lock the arrows in place.  This top coat method worked really well when I made them for AB.

Because I had to take them off for another costume the following day at AB I decided I didn’t like the costume – the pain of yanking them off was unreal – they did not soak off in acetone at all! ;.;  This time I can just leave them on till they come off naturally and repaint them when I get home.  Yay!

Aloha~

Thank you Cachalot and Dancingmad, you lovely ladies of Mass for letting me get on board!

Planning:

Polignac – Rose of Versailles* for ?? 2011

Steampunk OC* for ?? 2012??

18th century caraco (jacket) for Memorial Day Parade 2011
